Hazel Pencils

Coloured pencils made from hazel twigs filled with non-toxic crayon. Different thicknesses and textures because every twig is different! These pencils are made by a small, family firm in Poland where the hazel is coppiced to provide a sustainable crop and local craftspeople have been looking at alternative ways to use traditional skills and resources and provide much needed employment. The pencils are sold singly or 8 colours in a pot traditionally made from birch bark. Poland has the largest remaining areas of ancient and native woodland in Europe, so crafts that support its sustainable management are environmentally as well as economically important. About 17cm long.
